Veteran Program
Now serving Veterans in Washington State
Research suggests that PTSD among military personnel is higher than among the civilian population. Military personnel experience many more traumatic events than the regular population. Frequent exposure to these traumatic events increases the likelihood of mental illness. One of the most common mental disorders among Veterans is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As the name suggests, this mental illness results from exposure to trauma and causes a variety of symptoms.
PTSD and Substance Abuse
We recognize that Substance Use is frequently a comorbid Disorder coupled with PTSD. Effective treatment of Substance Use Disorder, addressing any underlying trauma that has likely contributed to the development of the Substance Use Disorder. Unfortunately, mental health disorders are common among Veterans, and those who go without treatment for the conditions are at higher risk of suicide. We are proud to be part of the Department of Veterans Affairs Community Care Network and to provide treatment and support to those who have served our country.
The Veterans Program
At Discover Recovery, Veterans are assigned both a Master’s Level Therapist and a Substance Use Disorder Professional. The inclusion of a Mental Health Therapist allows for the effective treatment of most co-occurring disorders that Veterans may face.
Stand-alone Substance Use Disorder Treatment for Veterans does not include treatment for PTSD and is, therefore, likely to be ineffective. At Discover Recovery, all therapists and medical providers are trained in trauma-informed care and the related criteria that indicate a diagnosis of PTSD.
The Treatment Begins Here
Our clinical staff is well-versed in a variety of modalities and evidence-based interventions to treat PTSD in this residential setting. Veterans can expect a robust clinical experience that enables them to safely begin the process of healing and addressing PTSD.
Medical Supervision
Round-the-clock supervision by our trained, experienced nursing staff is an essential part of the program.

Symptom Management
We manage our clients’ symptoms to make the detox process as smooth and painless as possible.
Levels of Care
We understand that the window of opportunity to ask for help can be limited, so a tremendous amount of caution is exercised to guarantee that we are the ideal location for treatment.
Prior to admission, potential clients receive a thorough pre-admission screening. The purpose of this assessment tool is to gain an understanding of the precipitating crisis that has led to the decision to seek help and identify any risks or concerns.
Detox
Our sub-acute medical detox is designed to help stabilize patients by resolving their physical and physiological dependence on alcohol or drugs.

Aftercare Program
Although it’s possible to be successful in recovery without aftercare, we believe that Veteran clients should always take advantage of an Aftercare Program. With aftercare, an individual in recovery can continue to address his or her recovery needs beyond the brief period of treatment, which, in turn, can significantly minimize the likelihood of a future relapse.
Developed in coordination with Veteran clients’ VA providers, Our Aftercare Program provides individualized plans for Veterans’ continued support and treatment, reinforcing their sobriety as they return to VA for continued care and to home to resume their lives.
Our Veteran Alumni support continues after discharge because recovery is a lifelong journey rather than a quick fix.
